The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton Community School District is located between the cities of Des Moines and Omaha, Nebraska. We entered into a whole-grade sharing agreement in 2011 and consolidated in 2014. Both locations have a preschool and a kindergarten. The building in Exira also houses the 4th - 8th grade students. The building in Elk Horn also houses 1st - 3rd and 9th - 12th grade students. The district is a 1:1 laptop initiative where students in grades 2nd- 7th have access to their own Chromebook and the 8th - 12th are able to bring home a Chromebook. Our districts strive to maximize student achievement in core academic areas while emphasizing 21st century survival skills for every student. We believe in individual student success.
On July 1, 2014, our two districts became one named Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton.
The community of Exira is steeped in history and tradition. Founded in 1857, Exira is the oldest town in Audubon County. People originally came to Exira for its agriculture and agribusiness.
The communities of Elk Horn and Kimballton are rich in Danish Heritage. The two towns are about two miles apart on Scenic Byway 173. Elk Horn is home to the Memorial Day celebration named Tivoli Fest and Kimballton is home to the Little Mermaid. Please visit our community’s websites for more information.
