We welcome you to our school district and to our website. Our schools are located in Exira and Elk Horn, Iowa, small communities in Audubon and Shelby Counties. We enjoy a strong sense of community and benefit from a high level of parent and community involvement.
Our schools offer many amenities including a one-to-one laptop computer program, as well as strong academic and extra-curricular programs. Our two schools, preschool, kindergarten, and grades 4-8 in Exira, and preschool through 3rd grade and grades 9-12 in Elk-Horn, serve over three hundred students from preschool through 12th grade.
We know you’ll love our communities as much as we do. Take a moment to browse our website and find out what’s new in our school district. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We’re always happy to serve you.
The vision for the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program (PBIS) at Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton Schools is intertwined in our overall goals of creating a positive culture and promoting high achievement. PBIS is a framework for establishing the social, cultural, and behavioral supports needed for a school to be an effective learning environment for all students.
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Members of the Exira-EHK Community School District,
It is in indeed an honor to be the new superintendent/high school principal at Exira-EHK. As many of you know, the board of education appointed me in February, and I began working on July 1.
I wanted to share a little bit about myself. My wife, Kristen, and I have three children. Our daughter, Riley, is seven and will be in 2nd grade. We also have identical twin boys, Dalton and Dawson. They are five and will be starting kindergarten this year. We will be moved into the district by the third week in July. My family has been welcomed with open arms and everyone that we have met is helping us with the transition of moving and settling into our house.
I have been very impressed during my visits to the different communities and the passion for the education of our students. I want to continue to build on the partnership between our communities and the school district. I am impressed by what I have learned about the district during the application, interview, and the selection and transition processes. Everyone I have met has been very helpful and has provided valuable insight as I begin as superintendent/high school principal.
One of my personal goals is to increase communication among all stakeholders in the district. In the future, you can expect to see communication from me in the form of website updates and social media. I am exploring what modes of communication will work best in our district and will try various forms to try to reach out to as many people as possible. Feel free to stop by the school and introduce yourself. I will be out in the community at different activities as I start my position. Please look for me and introduce yourself. I am excited to get to know you and for you to get to know me. I believe that there is no job more important than educating the next generation and no career more fulfilling.
Mr. Schnoes has been a great help during this transition, and I appreciate all of his help and dedication to the district over the past six years. I am sure he will enjoy spending more time with his family and life on the farm.
I look forward to building upon the success of the Exira-EHK School District and continuing to build upon the partnership between the communities and school district to “ensure learning for all of our students.”
Trevor Miller, Superintendent
