Welcome to Exira - EHK

We welcome you to our school district and to our website. Our schools are located in Exira and Elk Horn, Iowa, small communities in Audubon and Shelby Counties. We enjoy a strong sense of community and benefit from a high level of parent and community involvement.

Our schools offer many amenities including a one-to-one laptop computer program, as well as strong academic and extra-curricular programs. Our two schools, preschool, kindergarten, and grades 4-8 in Exira, and preschool through 3rd grade and grades 9-12 in Elk-Horn, serve over three hundred students from preschool through 12th grade.

We know you’ll love our communities as much as we do. Take a moment to browse our website and find out what’s new in our school district. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We’re always happy to serve you.

A Message from our Superintendent

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Winter is just around the corner, and it is time to make sure everyone knows where they can get cancellations, late starts, and early dismissals due to weather conditions. These same locations will also be used for other situations that may arise.

If there is going to be a cancellation or late start, our goal will be to have the messages sent out by 6:00 a.m. This may not always happen as weather in Iowa can change rapidly. A short time after that if you have signed up to be notified by your cell phone, home phone, or e-mail you should receive notification. If you are not sure if you have signed up or not, please contact Mr. Humphrey at the Exira-EHK Middle School. He will explain how to get your information updated.

If you have access to the Des Moines TV stations, the announcement will be on Channels 5, 8, and 13.

If you have access to the Omaha TV stations, the announcement will be on Channels 3, 6, and 7.

Radio stations used are KNOD in Harlan, KSOM in Atlantic, and KJAN in Atlantic.

If we need to dismiss early, those same contacts will be used with the hopes of giving at least a one-hour notice so parents can be ready.

Please have a backup plan for your children in case you are out of town, and we need to dismiss early. Please communicate this plan with your child’s teacher.

If the weather is bad please take your time and drive slow. It is better to be cautious and take a few extra minutes than hurry and have a higher probability of an accident.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Sincerely,

Trevor Miller

Trevor Miller, Superintendent
